Youth and Family Enrichment Services Inc. (YoFES) is in the business of changing and shaping lives. We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities.
Parent Education Program
Beginning in the fall of 2020, YoFES began partnering with Haitian American Public Health Initiatives (HAPHI) and Boston Public Schools to conduct free, virtual, multi-week parent education trainings. Taught entirely in Haitian Creole, the Parent Education Program empowers Haitian American parents to take an active role in advocating to maximize their children's education and well being. Participants will be mentored by expert community leaders and will learn how to navigate city and state resources, the BPS school system, the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, and much more.
The next Parent Education Program training session is just around the corner! Join us on Zoom on Sundays at 3:30 PM, March 14th - April 25th. Click on the button below to learn more and register!
Targeted Health Initiatives
YoFES has been in the forefront of offering evidence based model and best practice interventions to adolescents and young adults living in Metro Boston who may be at risk for STIs and HIV risk transmission and acquisition. YoFES, through its Boston Public Health Commission funded P & E program, conducts STIs and HIV/AIDS training for Haitian youth, particularly newcomer Haitian immigrants between the ages of 15 to 25, throughout the year. YoFES’s Enhanced Project SMART curriculum includes the following key components for our target group: Screening and risk assessments, behavioral skills practice; group discussions and lectures, and safer sex negotiation and communication skills. We trained more than 240 young Haitian Americans this past year.
Note: Project SMART activities are currently suspended due to the COVID-19 Pandemic
